| The powerful Presa Canario is the result of crossing the now extinct Bandino Majero and British Mastiffs to create a dog specifically for fighting. Originating in the Canary Islands, the Presa was popular as a fighter there until the 1940's when fighting was banned. The Presa was put to work shepherding and guarding but interest in the breed declined and the Presa faced extinction. However, at the start of the 1970's,interest was renewed in preserving this breed, a breed club was established and in time the Presa was recognized by the (FCI). |

| An excellent way to help protect the last remaining mountain gorillas is to adopt a gorilla. They also make wonderful gifts for your friends and loved ones any time of year. Proceeds from adoptions directly support the gorillas monitored by the Karisoke Research Center staff. |
